How To Tell If A Hookup Site Is A Scam

Posted on

Online dating has come a long way but you still need to be smart about where you spend your time. When you’re looking specifically for a hookup that is even more important. In our review of Localhookup.com we spent weeks using the site in order to determine if this is the site every guy should use or one you should run away from fast!

Online Dating Scams can be the most harmful to any member of social networking sites including all dating websites as it is a game played with people’s emotions in order to try and procure financial gain. Actually this is a very huge problem across the internet as a whole today along with the growing online social world. Scamadviser.com is a free website allowing people to quickly check any.

Not that many years ago, the idea of meeting someone on the internet was thought of as weird, or even creepy. Now, if you told someone you met your girlfriend on LocakHookup.com, they wouldn’t bat an eye. Online dating might be the most popular (and cheapest) way of meeting women.

So how do our reviews work? This is how:

Over the past couple of months we’ve been using both the free and paid version of LocalHookup. You absolutely must use both versions if you truly want to get a feel for how effective the site will be.

We send out a LOT of messages to women of all kinds and do what we can to actually meet up in person. We’ve had really good success on other sites and apps so we know what we’re doing.

After many weeks of trying it out, we then compare it to the results we had on the best sites and apps out there to put together this review. You won’t find a more comprehensive process anywhere else.

The things we do for you guys, huh?

How to tell if a hookup site is a scam page

Alas, it’s not always perfect. We’ve all heard horror stories about online dating. Many of these stories start with websites that are less than reputable. Some sites only exist to siphon money out of your wallet, so you have to be careful and make sure you’re using a legitimate service.

This is where we come in. We are constantly on the hunt for dating sites, both popular and on the rise, so that we can share the best hookup apps that will actually work for guys. In our LocalHookup review, we’ll determine if this site delivers on its “hookup guarantee.”

LocalHookup Review – Can Hooking Up Be A Click Away?

The first thing we want to do is compare how Local Hookup performed for us vs. AFF, which we think is the best option for most guys to find hookups. We’ve certainly seen the most guys have success using it.

As you can see from the comparison above, we don’t think very highly of localhookup.com. We’ve spent a TON of time on over 100 different dating and hookup apps so we know quality when we see it and use it.

AFF is a higher bar admittedly but it wasn’t even close. These are some of the biggest issues we had with LocalHookup:

Way, way, way too many fake profiles

How To Tell If A Hookup Site Is A Scam Site

It doesn’t take long for you to realize that something is fishy with Local Hookup if you spend any amount of time looking through profiles. There are just too many models, or at least profiles with model pictures, to be real.

I know women are getting better at selfies but not this good. The sheer number of professional photos of obvious professional models is ridiculous. It’s just too good to be true (and it is).

Automated messages that pretend to be real people

A gigantic red flag that you need to avoid a site is when you receive automated messages from bots pretending to be real women. As you can see above, they are pretty obvious.

When you are still in the process of filling out your profile, and don’t even have a photo up yet, receiving messages like this is super suspicious. Do you think women are just sitting around messaging blank profiles all day?

There just isn’t any good reason to use it

The reality is that as long as legit options for finding hookups online exist (like Tinder or AFF) there isn’t any reason to use this site. The most likely scenario is that you’ll waste a lot of time and money for nothing.

Now that we’ve covered a quick comparison and our initial recommendation let’s get into the details of our review. We found a lot we didn’t like in our LocalHookup review that you need to know if you haven’t skipped it yet!

First impressions: Nothing new here

LocalHookup.com opened with a pink and white color scheme. Staring seductively back at me was a busty blonde woman enticing me to sign up as a box of attractive potential hookups promised the site had a lot to offer. I’d seen it all before. Even LocalHookup’s logo looked like it was made with a generic font, and the name itself screamed “unoriginal.”

The site was full of the typical promises, too. On their front page, they informed me, “Over 7,896 members online now” in my city (an oddly specific number). The site also proclaimed, “Yep! LocalHookup is really free to use and always has been! You get unlimited access to all tools and features on the site. You can search, browse, email members, chat, and get to know people without restriction.”

That all sounds great, but I’ve read these statements before and been disappointed.

If you don’t try AFF instead you will wish you had

There isn’t really a lot more to say that we don’t cover in the rest of our Local Hookup review. There are very few people (if any) that actually use this app and those that do are probably not what you are looking for.

Instead, you should head over and try AFF’s free trial. They have the most people using it, have been around for 15+ years, and have been our favorite hookup app for a while now.

Most guys are going to have their best experience using AFF when looking for hookups so it definitely needs to be your first stop.

Local Hookup fails to impress

After I signed up for an account, things didn’t get much better. I was immediately taken to an account upgrade page. After all their promises of a “really free” site, it was suspicious to see them begging me for money straight out the gate. You would think they’d at least wait for the second date, you know what I mean? Bad form.

More issues popped up. A ton of the profiles had hidden, “private” profile photos I couldn’t see. The menu options on the main page included “Grow Your D***” and “Make Any Girl F***”. Very classy. I don’t suppose a hookup site is necessarily aiming for “class,” but it was still a bit much. The explicit photos all over the place didn’t help.

People are coming to this site for a hookup, obviously. It’s in the name. But that doesn’t mean you should expect to find nothing but nude photos everywhere. It didn’t give me much optimism that I would actually be able to meet a real woman in real life. If nothing else, all that nudity was an unwelcome distraction.

Which is probably why LocalHookup does it. Scam dating sites often throw a bunch of adult content out there so the user doesn’t focus on what they’re not getting, which is an actual date or hookup.

The women on Local Hookup were chatty

Another thing on LocalHookup.com that jumped out at me, quite literally, was the flood of chat requests. One popped up from a woman saying “good god!” It continued: “someone new!” and “do you want to see my selfie?”

Tell

However, when I tried to respond with a simple “Hello,” I received a message that said “Oops, your last message was not delivered! For unlimited communication with all members please upgrade to a FREE Gold Membership. You must verify your age using a valid credit card.”

Okay, so it’s free to chat, but I have to give a credit card to “validate my age.” I hate it when site’s pull this stunt.

Many more chat requests like that first one kept popping up,which raised concerns. Any guy who has spent some time online dating knows it’s hard to start a chat with a woman. It’s even harder waiting for one to initiate the chat. So, any site where a random guy (without even a profile picture) can get a bunch of chats right away is automatically suspicious in my book.

Local Hookup has suspicious profiles

The fact that I was getting so many messages made me wonder: Who are all of these women? What about me was encouraging women to send message after message without prompt? And why was everyone willing to put explicit photos front and center on a random website? I live in a pretty conservative city, these didn’t look like any women living “near” me.

I scoped out their profiles to find answers to my question, but they were pretty sparse. Most women had generic self-descriptions, as if they were all written by the same person, or just copy-and-pasted from some other site.

There was a strange feature that resembled Facebook’s “wall” where people commented on each other’s profiles. But most of the comments were the same thing. I saw at least seven separate comments, from different guys on different profiles, that said “Your profile caught my attention.” Boy, the guys on LocalHookup were as generic as the site.

All these clues suggested the profiles were far from authentic.

Local Hookup is a constellation of “Love Stars”

Most scam sites use fake profiles of one sort or another. They’re there to lure people in with fake messages and tempting photos. The idea is to get users to sign up for a “premium” membership so they can chat with these otherwise unattainable women. Once you sign up for an account, you find yourself chatting with a robot.

These sites love to create cute names for their fake profiles. In LocalHookup.com’s case, they use the silly name, “Love Stars”. Isn’t that nice? You’re not flirting with a computer algorithm, it’s a Love Star! To their credit, LocalHookup was transparent about the whole thing on their Terms and Conditions page:

“You understand, acknowledge, and agree that some of the user profiles posted on this site may be fictitious or models or bots related to our “Love Stars” ( ) program. Our LS work for the site in an effort to stimulate dialogue with users and to stimulate user participation on the Website and Services, advertisement of the Website and Services, and the creation of user profiles.”

Finally, some truth on this site. Just not the truth I wanted to read.

Believe it or not, it gets worse

If that all wasn’t enough to keep me away from LocalHookup, I kept reading through the fine print and came across this alarming chunk:

“By posting Content to any public area of Localhookup, you automatically grant, and you represent and warrant that you have the right to grant, to Localhookup an irrevocable, perpetual, non-exclusive, fully paid, worldwide license to use, copy, perform, display, and distribute such information and content and to prepare derivative works of, or incorporate into other works, such information and content, and to grant and authorize sublicenses of the foregoing.”

I’ll translate that legal language for you: LocalHookup can take your private content, like photos, messages, and profile information, and do whatever they want with it.

LocalHookup.com can use your info in their advertising, send it to their members in an email, or they can make you into one of their Love Stars. All without asking permission. That’s what signing up for an account grants them.

Local Hookup is a disaster on every level

LocalHookup has all the hallmarks of a scam dating site. They use a cluttered, ugly and unoriginal layout, populated with explicit content. Then they come on strong with fake messages, fake profiles, and some pretty scary fine print that lets them do whatever they want with your information. That’s scam dating site bingo.

There are plenty of people looking for a local hookup, but you’re not going to find them on LocalHookup.com. Don’t waste your time or money. Lots of other dating sites offer the opportunity to meet real women for free (actual free), so keep looking and never settle for a dating site that can’t keep its promises.

The Scam Exposed & The Fraud Revealed

First off we need to point out that CheatingHookup.com is associated with SeekingMilf.com and MilfsAffair.com. When we say that the site is associated with these other sites we actually mean that the site is owned and run by the same company and individuals behind those two sites. It's important to point that out because if you were interested in signing up to any of those two sites, then you should probably think twice. The same scams and deceptions run on both of those two sites is being run here as well. It's very easy for these corporations that run these large dating networks to just purchase a domain name for $8 and create a new dating site using the same database of members, with some new graphics. It takes them very little time to set up a new dating site, then they can be up and running with the new dating site that has no negative reviews and they can start swindling and deceiving people once again.

The deceptions are almost always the same. The trickery includes fake dating profiles of women, fake emails being sent to free and paid members and paid employees who interact with you and pretend to be real members of the site when they are not.

This deception rips off hundreds and maybe thousands of people everyday because most people are unaware of how these fraudulent dating sites operate until it's too late. Unknowing people men register on a dating site looking to hookup with women for discreet fun. The problem is is that most of these sites that I expose are deceiving people and tricking them at every single level possible.

Where Are The Real Women At?

If you look at the image below I have included a quick screenshot of some of the members on the site. Look closely at every every profile and it says 'Online Cupid'. What that means is that the dating profile is actually not legitimate and has been fabricated by this site. This is a proven fact even though it's surprisingly shocking. For this review we did registered for a free membership on the site.We then proceeded to do a search for local members in our community we were shocked to find out that every single female profile was an 'Online Cupid'. This means that every profile on the site for females that we searched for was in fact fake. We couldnt find any real women on the site, the search results just had 'Online Cupids'.

Security Dating Certificate

In the terms and conditions they state the following:

'Online Cupids® Communications: You understand, acknowledge, and agree that some of the user profiles posted on this site may be fictitious, and are associated with our 'Online Cupids®' service. Such profiles are designated with the Online Cupid logo'

Even The Emails Are Fake

Adding to the fraud regarding fictitious profiles was the truth that we uncover regarding the emails we receive. All emails received from female members on the site were fake. These female members were also 'Online Cupids' and in the terms and conditions it is defined as a fictitious person.

You may be asking yourself why does this dating site go to the lengths of creating fake dating profiles and sending fictitious emails to appear to be coming from interested female members, when in fact they are 'Online Cupids' which are fake women who don't really exist. It became very clear and easy to see how this scam operates, and in return how the site makes money.

How The Scam Works

Secure Online Dating Scam

If you try to communicate with any members on the site you need to upgrade and pay a full membership with your credit card. So the emails are sent to free members and if you try to send an email back to the supposed women interested in interacting with you, then you will need to upgrade and buy a full paid membership. Unfortunately this is how you get scammed because the emails are from fake women emailing you, so as soon as you upgrade to a paid membership you just wasted your money. You are basically interacting with computer software programs and no real humans on this site and that is what makes it a scam and a fraud.

In the terms and conditions they state the following:

'Initial messages from our Online Cupids® service may be automatically generated with no human involvement'

Girls Paid To Chat With You

How To Tell If A Hookup Site Is A Scam List

And if by chance you do actually come across real women on the site there are very high chances that these are in fact paid employees of the site itself. CheatingHookup.com discusses paying employees to interact with members of their dating service. The reason they use paid employees to interact with subscribers on the site is because they want you to upgrade and buy a membership. If you already have a paid membership they use real women to interact with you to get you to continue paying a monthly membership. This deception basically keeps you paying the monthly membership charges until you realize once again that you will never meet these women in person because they are actually paid employees making a wage by chatting and interacting with members of the site.

In the terms and conditions they state the following:

'messages and/or correspondence thereafter may be generated by third-parties hired or contracted by Us.'

Final Decision:

It's unfortunate that some dating sites have to tarnish the image of all online dating services however this is the world we live in. This site goes to great lengths to deceive and cheat honest people. It is our recommendation that you should obviously not do any business with any dating sites that resort to creating to using fake profiles and sending out phony email messages from fictitious women who are not even members of the service.
